Drop Off Your Prescription Medications, Oct. 22
National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, an annual nationwide event, will take place Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 am to 2 pm, local times, in states across the country. During the event, residents can drop off their unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications for safe disposal.
Collection sites in every local community can be found by visiting www.dea.gov.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day addresses the nation’s prescription drug abuse epidemic. According to a 2013 Partnership Attitude Tracking Study, more than ¾ of teens indicated it’s easy to get prescription drugs from their parents’ medicine cabinet. Americans understand that cleaning out old prescription drugs from medicine cabinets, kitchen drawers, and bedside tables reduces accidents, thefts, and the misuse and abuse of these medicines. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), prescription medication misuse and abuse causes more accidental deaths than heroin and cocaine combined.
